Bulgar, comes of Septimania (Gaul) promises to order the clergy of Septimania to organize prayers in the face of war between the Merovingian kings, Theuderic and Theudebert. Letter of Bulgar to an unnamed Frankish bishop, ca AD 610/612.

Bulgar, comes of Septimania, learns that Theuderic and his grandmother Brunhild want to use Avars against Theudebert. He writes to an unnamed bishop in Gaul and asks him to inform Theudebert about the danger and urge him to make the war preparations.
 
Unde petimus euidentiam rei nobis significari, ut et nos participes effecti fidelium pari fidei fraglantia consurgentes cum uniuersis sacerdotibus, clero cunctoque huius prouincie Xpianorum plebe, indictis letaneis, redemptorem omnium Dominum supplicationibus adeamus, ut inuictam potentie sue in defensione catholicorum pretendat dexteram [...].

Bulgar, comes of Septimania, learns that  Theuderic and his grandmother Brunhild want to use Avars against Theudebert. He writes to an unnamed bishop in Gaul and asks him to inform Theudebert about the danger and urge him to the war preparations.
 
So we ask you to notify us if these things prove to be true, so that we, as one of the faithful, raised up by the ardour of the same faith, having ordered the litanies to be recited will turn with all the bishops, clergy and the Christian people of this land to the Lord, Redeemer of all the people, with supplications, so that he extends the invincible hand of His power in defence of the Catholics [...].

The letter is a part of the collection of the 18 letters called Epistulae Wisigothicae. The letters were written between the last quarter of the 6th c. and the first quarter of the 7th c.  The senders and addressees represent different groups - there are King Sisebut, bishops, monks, a Byzantine patrician, and Visigothic nobles. The Latin of these letters is sometimes excruciatingly difficult (for a linguistic study see Martin-Iglesias 2014).
