The author ascribes already to the early second-century pope the later liturgical development, the sense of which (reciting the Lord's Passion during the preaching at the Mass) is however unclear. We can note the sixth-century usage of "missae" for the Eucharist, and "sacerdotes" for what clearly are not only bishops, but also presbyters here. The first edition does not include the 'during the Mass' remark.
