Canon 1

Vt neophyti non ordinentur.
Concilio Nicaeno, tit. 2. Concilio Sardicensi, tit. 14. Concilio Laodicensi, tit. 3.

(ed. Munier 1974: 287)
Canon 1

Neophytes should not be ordained.
Council of Nicaea, title 2. Council of Sardica, title 14. Council of Laodicea, title 3.

(trans. S. Adamiak)

Discussion:

The canon in question repeats Canon 2 of Nicea, Canon 14 of Sardica and Canon 3 of Laodicea. It follows the norm of 1 Timothy 3:6. It would be interesting to know whether Ferrandus put in this norm only in order to be consistent in repeating all the norms regarding clerics, or whether such a situation would be still possible in Africa in the sixth century.
