The Council of Rome, AD 465, in which presbyters participate, reaffirms that those who take non-virgins as wives or take second wives cannot be ordained. Letter 15 in the epistolary of Pope Hilarius, Rome, AD 465.

The long list of the bishops present at the council ends with the following words:
 
.... residentibus etiam universis presbyteris ...
 
Those who take non-virgins as wives or take second wives cannot be ordained.
 
3. Ab universis episcopis et presbyteris acclamatum est: "Exaudi Christe, Hilaro vita!" etc.
 
There follows the list of acclamations. It appears also in paragraph 10.
