Canon 8

Any cleric, subdeacon, deacon, presbyter, who would take something from the possessions or the building of the Church without the knowledge of the bishop, or would commit a fraud, should not only emend what he has done his head bowed in utter shame, but also should be forbidden the entrance to the church, against which he was seen to commit a fraud. He should do penance (iaceat sub penitentia) for two years, [after which], as long as he deeply regrets what he has done, he can be restored to his office.

About the source:

Title: First Council of Narbonne, Concilium Narbonense I anno 589
Origin: Narbonne (Gaul)
Denomination: Catholic/Nicene/Chalcedonian
The First Council of Narbonne was called by Migetius, metropolitan bishop of Narbonne, and gathered six other bishops from his province. This synod was held on the 1st of November as the Third Council of Toledo (convened in May of the same year) has suggested that the provincial councils of the Visigothic kingdom should gather on that date. Migetius was indeed present at Toledo along with King Reccared who had recently converted to Catholicism.
