[cross in a cricle]: + Britto presbyter lived 65 years, rested in the peace of the Lord on the Nones of August in the 584 year of the era (= 5 VIII 546).

The date on the inscription is given according to the Spanish Era, which began in 38 BC.

Origin: Mértola (Iberian Peninsula)
The inscription was sent to Newcastle upon Tyne ca 1888 from Mértola in Portugal by an Englishman, Mr. Warden. The text was inscribed on the marble slab ca 60 cm long and ca 50 cm wide (Bruce 1888).
