Canon 4 of the Fourth Council of Arles (Gaul, AD 524) forbids receiving and defending the wandering clerics who avoid ecclesiastic discipline.

Et si forte aliquis clericorum regola disciplinae ecclesiasticae subterfugiens fuerit euagatus, quicumque eum susceperit et non solum pontifici suo non reconciliauerit, sed magis defensare praesumpserit, ab ecclesiae communione priuetur.

Canon 4
And if by chance some cleric evades the rule of ecclesiastic discipline by wandering, whoever would receive him and instead of reconciling him with his pontiff would dare to defend him, will be banned from communion.

This council convened on 6 June AD 524 in Arles on the occasion of the dedication of Saint Mary`s Basilica outside the city walls. The proceedings were presided over by Caesarius of Arles. Apart from him, thirteen bishops, three presbyters, and one cleric of unknown rank signed the four canons - all of which concern the clerical discipline.
